Performance
Starting up the 2026 GMC Terrain brings its standard 1.5L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine to life. It produces 175 horsepower and 184 lb.-ft. of torque, but adding the available AWD system ups the torque output to 203 lb.-ft. Upgrading to that more potent drivetrain also adds the available 8-speed automatic transmission. Sticking with the standard FWD, however, doesn’t mean you’ll need to dread Saint Johns’ winter weather. Every Terrain model is equipped with a standard Snow drive mode. If you occasionally hit the trails, consider the AT4 edition, which comes with an off-road-tuned suspension, a front skid plate, and a steel underbelly shield. Pairing these benefits with the SUV’s 1,500-lb. maximum towing capacity1 makes it a great fit for taking a small pop-up camper out for a weekend.
Technology
Easy-to-use infotainment features will keep you connected on the go in the 2026 GMC Terrain. In the center console, you’ll find a vast 15-in. standard touchscreen display. It comes with wireless Apple CarPlay®2 and Android Auto™3 capability as standard. It even has standard Google built-in4 so that you can still access music, navigation, and more if you leave your phone at home. If you have your device with you but its battery is low, set it onto the available wireless charging pad so that it can re-energize as you cruise down US-127. Behind the steering wheel sits a standard 11-in. Driver Information Center. It’s customizable, letting you choose whether it shows driving data, safety information, or even details about what music is playing.
Safety
The 2026 Terrain is also packed with 16 standard advanced safety and driver-assist features designed to give you peace of mind on the road, even when you’re just heading across town to Saint Johns City Park. One of the highlights is the Blind Zone Steering Assist5 function, which moves the car away from a potential collision if you try to merge into an occupied lane. Came an hour away for one specific vehicle because I was told the day before and day of it was available only to find out it was not there, it was in Saint John's. ”
